Tattoo Aftercare
A tattoo is a beautiful body adornment that will last a lifetime depending
on your aftercare.
Please remember that your tattoo is an open wound and your aftercare will
determine the quality of your tattoo in the long run.
- I will cover your tattoo with dressing. This is to be kept on till the next morning.
- Remove the dressing and wash the area in the shower (No bathing!) with
soap and your flat hand only.
- You will notice that your tattoo is very slimy (this is normal it's only
plasma).
- When washing your tattoo be sure to remove all the plasma.
- Give your tattoo 10 minutes to breath then recover with cling wrap.
- Sleep with cling wrap on.
- The next morning wash your tattoo again and leave it open (does not need
covering again).
- Use a tiny bit of either bepanthen or dettol cream once a day (rubbed in
well).
- Only shower for the next 2 weeks and only wash your tattoo with your hand
and soap.
- Keep out of sun for at least 3 weeks.
- After the healing process always use sunblock on your tattoos if
exposed.
- NB! please remember your tattoo will become dry or scabby... this is
normal, do not scratch or pick at it.
Frequently asked questions.
Does it hurt?
A.) Yes, it hurts. But it's bearable. The first few minutes hurt the most
but once your endorphins kick in it becomes pretty easy.
Do you use clean needles?
A.) rest assured we only use needles once, the tattoo needles will be
opened in front of you. As for the tips and grips (these are machine parts) they
go through ultra sonic tanks, auto clave and u.v boxes before being resealed and
used with brand new needles again.
When will I need a touch up?
A.) if you follow your after care correctly the chances of touch up's are
minimal. The major reasons for touch up's are usually too much sun, if soaked in
water while healing or if you pick or scratch at your tattoo, however, if you
feel that your tattoo needs a touch up it will be free of charge and can be done
bout 6weeks after the tattoo was done.
Why cant tattoos be done very small?
A.) Depending on the design and location of your tattoo it needs to be a
certain size to ensure it heals correctly, if to small the lines will merge and
detail will be lost.
Why don't artists like tattooing hands or feet?
A.) Hands and feet tend to heal a bit more difficult and if not taken care
of can look really bad. It depends on the art work and the location so always
consult your artist before deciding on tattooing these areas.
Do you do white tattoos?
A.) No, unfortunatlely the African sun is way to harsh and white tattoos
will never heal white, we do however use white when doing highlights in colour
tattoos but do not do tattoos only consisting of white ink.
What do i need to consider when wanting to do a cover up?
A.) Its always better to show your artist the tattoo you want to cover as
it cant just be covered with anything you want. its a procedure that needs to be
done very carefully and sometimes you have to go quite a bit bigger with the new
tattoo to ensure you cover the old tattoo properly. cover up's can be done on
most tattoos if you listen to the advise your artist has to give.
How do I choose a tattoo artist?
A.) Many people will just walk in anywhere and sit down for some ink
without looking at the artists portfolio. always make sure you have seen some
the work your artist has done before jumping on the chair.
Why do some artists give different advise or do what other artist wont do?
A.) At the end of the day we are all individual artists and we all take
pride in the work we do on our clients, if we refuse to do what you want its
because we care about the permanent change you're about to make to your
appearance. always listen to your artist and if you don't like the advise then
find yourself an artist that meets your needs (remember an artist that says
'NO' isn't just doing it for the money).
